To have the best in chicken houses takes planning and preparation. A structure that is both place of production and a place of safety. Production of eggs of course is a huge benefit of poultry. Safety is a constant need for birds of any kind. Predators of all kinds love to eat fowl or eggs, if not both.

The first issue with any construction project is location. Finding a place that suits the needs best will take a little effort. Location can be the key to safe and happy birds. Cold winds and rain should also be taken into consideration when choosing a spot for the hen house.

Design becomes a factor after a sound location has been chosen. Function is always the first thing to cover. After that practicality or style can take over. Depending if something purely for serving a need is wanted or something more to look quaint or picturesque is desired will determine the best design.

The size of the building for housing any kind of animal is also a prime issue to consider. Animals of all kinds need their living space for health and happiness. Being safe and protected will keep them that way.

With a larger flock and a bigger building to house the birds comes a need for more functional parts as well. Functions such as nesting boxes and making sure there is plenty of roosting room. Nest boxes are a necessity for egg production and roosts are a necessity for proper sleeping. Without enough nest boxes the eggs will be laid upon the floor. Roosts allow fowl to rest and sleep through the night.

Having the proper amount feeders and watering dispensers is also a good thing to keep in mind before raising anything. Food is always important to animal well being, and water is crucial for good egg production. A good overall chicken house is a place of egg production and protection. Keep these two factors in mind when building a bird haven, and enjoy your flock.
