Eliminating Problem Dog Behaviors With Correct Instruction

It is extremely important to be able to train your dog to not bite people unless the dog is being used for defense. This is important because unwarranted dog biting can lead to fines, loss of your dog, or termination of the dog's life. The tips in this article will help you with preventing your dog from biting.

Personal

If your crate training your new dog or puppy make sure that they understand the crate is their own personal space. Never use the crate as a punishment otherwise they will start to look at it as a bad place and will try to start resisting going inside of it.

Don't let your new puppy sleep on your bed. While it might be tempting to bring a puppy up onto your bed for the night, it's a big mistake! Once they get used to it, they will refuse to sleep anywhere else. Also, remember that the small puppy that only takes up a small amount of space will grow very quickly. Every dog needs its own personal space, as do you!

Switch your rewards if you find that your dog no longer works as hard for them. Dogs can get bored with their treats just like humans do. Picking a fragrant reward or trying a reinforcement that is not food-based might just might help cure your dog of his reluctance!

Find out what motivates your dog as a training reward, and save it for training sessions to get maximum results. Some dogs love a chance to chew on a special squeaky toy or ball, while others adore a certain brand of treats or tiny chunks of fresh baked chicken. It never hurts if the dog is a little hungry so the treats seem even tastier.

When training your dog, a great tip is to make sure you train your dog a certain amount of times for a certain lime limit depending upon its age because this is important to ensure your dog grows up to be well-mannered. For dogs that are under four months old, you should train them three times a day for five minutes each time. For dogs that are four to eight months old, you should train them two or three times per day for ten minutes each time. For dogs over eight months old, you should train them twice a day for fifteen minutes each time.

When teaching a puppy basic commands, start with 'sit'. This is the easiest one for a dog to master. Hold his favorite snack just above his nose, and firmly say 'sit'. Most dogs will instinctively sit down at this point. Offer him the treat and don't forget to praise him profusely. If he doesn't sit, gently push his rear end towards the floor. After he has been sitting for a few seconds, give him the treat, and like before, remember to praise him.
