Determining Basic Pet Sitting Rates And Duties

By Rhea Solomon

When looking for a pet sitter you will find many different levels of care and pet sitting rates. One major difference is the overnight service versus the daily stop in for food, water and playtime exercise. These two options offer wide varieties in care and price.

The person you hire must be capable of providing the basics of care such as food, water, exercise and playtime. They should also bring in mail and newspapers and water your plants. This is considered light housekeeping and is included in the basic package.

The cost for daily sitting ranges from ten and twenty dollars per day. The normal charge will be around fourteen dollars a day. With two stops a day your dog will feel less lonely and abandoned. An added advantage is that they will appear to be staying in the home while you are gone.

There are activities that can add to or take away from the cost of the person you hire. If you have a cat, rather than a dog the cost is usually less. If the home requires no light housekeeping some sitters will lower the charges by as much as two dollars daily. Two or more pets can raise the bill as much as another dollar. If you are going away for the holidays it will probably cost an extra five dollars a day.

Your pet may need to be walked daily if you live in a closed in area. The average walk can last about forty five minutes to an hour. The cost for this service varies from fifteen to twenty dollars per walk. This can work out to approximately thirty dollars for the pet owner.

When considering overnight sitters cost will be a major factor. The rate can vary between forty and eighty dollars a day. The average overnight sitter charges about sixty dollars a day. Volume of care needed and whether or not your pet can be alone for twenty hours at a time will be determining factors when you make your choice between overnight or daily stop in pet sitting.

Choosing an overnight sitter will afford your pup or cat more companionship than if someone arrives during the day unannounced and stressing the animal each time. Feeding schedules do not need to be changed when you have someone staying in your home. They are also available in the event of a veterinary emergency and are able to make trips to the vet's office allowing for the proper care to be given. You have the added benefit of someone in your home and that will keep those who would break in away.

The actual process for determining basic pet sitting rates and duties may seem complicated but it will pay off for you and your pet. A no-frills daily sitter will top out at one hundred forty dollars for a week. The overnight sitter will be about four hundred dollars for the same period but the extra benefits may well make the price difference worth it to you.
