There are more than five thousand of jumping spider species. They belong to a family of Arachnids called Salticidae, and can be found just about anywhere on the world. Thanks to the shape and size of their eyes, these little things have an excellent vision. They are very good hunters, mostly hunting small insects. When it comes to jumping, each can jump over fifty of its body length, some species even eighty. Their legs aren't really muscular, and the secret is in increasing the blood pressure in their legs just before taking a jump.

They make very interesting pets, because they are really friendly. If you look at your spider, it will look back at you, and follow you with its large and distinctive eyes wherever you go. He will even jump on your finger. Some species are particularly attractive, vividly colored and haired. These spiders are active during the day, and that's why their colors are so interesting. If the weather is bad, they will hide.

They are interesting and efficient hunters as well. They move slowly towards their prey, until they are ready to jump and grab it with their jaws. To make sure they won't fall down, they release safety lifespans, and even if they miss, they are safe from falling. They can produce these tiny silk lines and make silk chambers, but they don't make characteristic spider webs.

Females are larger, and males have more interesting colors. Front legs are usually even more colorful and covered with long hair. The spider will wave its front legs in the air to be more attractive to the female, this is a part of its courtship. Females are careful mothers. After they lay their eggs into silky chambers, they will guard them to make sure they are safe.

Frontal position of large central eyes make these creatures really easy recognizable. Their bodies consists of two parts. Frontal one is called Cephalothorax, because it is really made from both head and the thorax. The abdomen is placed behind it. Every spider has four pairs of legs. All are attached to its cephalothorax, and front legs are shorter, vividly colored and covered with longer hair.

Their lifespan is about one year. Some species live two to three years, and some live in colder climates and hibernate, and they can live longer thanks to that. They don't make webs, but they do make tiny little silk chambers to hide in them during nights. These chambers are usually attached to some plant, or somewhere behind rocks.

As they grow, they have to molt, usually five to six time before they grow up to be adults. The molting is a process of shedding the entire skin, all at once. During that time, they also hide in their silk chambers, attached to vegetation. Spiders are very useful little creatures, because they feed on different insects that are pests, and people should not kill them.
