Do Cavachons Shed And Why

By Patty Goff

Most Cavachon breeders will tell you that these precious little dogs don't shed. This might be important to you, especially if you suffer from allergies. Shedding is perfectly natural thing for dogs, but different breeds have different characteristics. Most dogs belong to moderate shedding breeds, and designer dogs in low shedding breeds. The question is do Cavachons shed.

As all other hairs, dogs' hairs have their lifetime. They will fall off in time, sooner or later. Simply brush your dog's coat. If you can see a single hair on the brush, your dog sheds. So, this is perfectly normal. The question is how much hair is there, and how to keep this shedding under control. Regular brushing can definitely minimize the damage.

Every hair has its lifetime. It simply cannot be avoided. Some breeds such as German shepherd, lose hair all the time, plus extensive seasonal shedding in the spring. They have to lose their thick, winter coats before summer comes. Dogs kept indoors usually don't get these winter coats, and numerous breeds don't shed seasonally.

The fact is that most allergies are caused by tiny little particles of fallen skin, not by animal hair. In constant process of self-regeneration, skin peels off dead skin cells. Human skin does the same. Shedding breeds lose more hair, and more dead skin cells. In this case, there are more allergens in the air, and the possibility for different allergy symptoms is much higher.

Regular brushing and occasional baths are the best ways for minimizing the damage. This will remove loose hairs and dead skin cells and keep your home and your pet tidy. Smooth hair breeds can be groomed using really effective special glove.

Good quality dog food will affect your pet's health and minimize the hair loss. Add fresh vegetables to your pet's diet and give him an egg every once in a while. You can also give him a piece of his favorite fruit. Consult your vet about this and consider giving vitamin and mineral supplements to your dog as well.

Fleas and various parasites could also be the reason for shedding. Different health problems could also contribute to this. Dry skin is the first symptom, and something is definitely wrong. Consult your vet as soon as possible. In this case, there are much more allergens in the air, and the risk of getting allergies is much higher.

Giving a bath to a dog every once in a while can sometimes be very useful. This way all those annoying hairs will remain in your tub. The problem is that this also removes natural skin oils, and makes the skin dry. You have to find a good balance. Buy very mild shampoo and consult your vet about some good product for skin hydration.

When it comes to Cavachons, you won't have many problems with shedding. They shed very little, and regular brushing is enough for keeping this under control. It is also advisable to trim some particular coat types. In any case, if you aren't sure what to do, consult your vet about it.
