General Information On Toy Husky

By Leslie Ball

Many people have dogs as pets. These animals are considered close companions of humans. There are many different breeds available, each with their own set of traits. Husky is the name used to describe the types of dogs employed to pull sleds in northerners. They are known for their fast-pulling style. Although these may be used for this purpose, they are also domestic breeds that people keep as pets. A toy husky refers to dogs bred to be miniature.

Most of these animals have a lot of energy and great athleticism. They usually have a thick coat of fur, which may be red, white, gray or black in color. Huskies typically have pale blue eyes, although these can also be yellow, green and brown. It is typical for these animals to have two different colors of eyes, a trait referred to as heterochromia.

Historically, these animals were bred in norther regions for hunting and sled-pulling purposes. They are now seen in many different areas of the world. Most have been domesticated and serve as pets. It is believed that this breed is a direct descendant of wolves in the wild.

This is considered a landrace breed and is often owned by indigenous people residing in the Arctic. Huskies are known for being one of the oldest breeds of dog. There are many different types, which are often named based on their origin: Alaska Klee Kai, Labrador, Mackenzie River, American eskimo dog, American Akita, Canadian eskimo dog, Alaskan malamute and more.

The mini or toy versions of these animals is made possible through the breeding process. It began during the late 1990s when Bree Normandin was selectively breeding huskies into more compact size. Standard dogs who were notably small would be mated in order to propagate their small gene and pass it to their puppies. The American Kennel Club does not consider these mini or toy dogs to be their own separate breed. Instead, they are just listed as part of the size variation in this breed.

Smaller versions are expected to have the same traits of the normal sized huskies. The animals are known to do well with families and are generally nice to strangers. They work hard and play harder but are expected to have a gentle nature. Toy huskies are often no bigger than 13 inches, with miniatures also ranging between 13 and 15 inches. Standard huskies are typically 15 to 17 inches. Small versions will weigh under 40 pounds.

These animals are available through many shelters, breeders and pet stores. The cost for purchasing them will range based on a number of factors, but they are often more expensive than standard sized huskies or other breeds. It is essential to do research to find out what this breed needs to stay healthy and happy. People should also look into the background of breeders to ensure their practices are humane.

Pet owners might prefer to have small dogs for a number of reasons. Typically, they are easier to care for and can function well in small spaces. People who get toy versions can expect the standard characteristics in this breed, but in an animal that is smaller and easier to manage.
