Healthy And Energetic Pomeranians For Sale

By Brenda Warner

These little furry balls of energy are one of the most popular breeds in America. Pomeranians are a toy breed and the dogs weigh in around five pounds. Their double coat has a long over coat with a very dense undercoat. The long hair appears to stand on end, giving the little dog a larger silhouette than it would have minus the long hair. Oklahoma City, OK is happy to have caring breeders with Pomeranians for sale.

Every breed has its own special set of characteristics and this breed in no different. There is a myth that the dogs bark excessively and some people call the dogs yappers. While it is true they bark and the bark is high pitched, the dogs are easily quieted with a little human attention. They have been bred to be indoor lap dogs. Poms, as they are sometimes called, have no hunting instinct and must be cared for by a human.

The fluffy double coat should really be brushed daily and groomed professionally on a weekly basis. Due to the level of care needed, a commitment from the owner is necessary for a happy healthy dog. Pomeranians usually live twelve to sixteen years, so you can enjoy their companionship for many years. Their country of origin is Germany. The breed originated from the Spritz family of dogs, but Poms have been bred to be smaller in size.

Poms come in various colors ranging from white to black with a lot of in-between shades. Some of the puppies have a solid colored coat and others are mostly white, reddish or black with random splashes of other contrasting colors. The dogs are very cute and lovable. The breeders tend to be very caring and affectionate with the puppies. The best breeders will not keep the pups in cages.

One breeder in Oklahoma City selectively breeds their animals to be a little larger than most. They offer parti poms and exotic poms and treat the puppies like the family pet from the day the puppies are born. Parti Pomeranians usually have a white coat with splashes of color.

Exotic Poms come in rare colors, such as sable, deep chocolate or a grayish blue color that is very distinctive. A merle Pom is one with reverse coloration. The main base of the coat is dark and there are splashes of lighter colored fur over the body. The merles are instantly recognizable due to their mottled appearance.

Some toy breeds have a lot of health issues. Despite their small size the dogs are a relatively sturdy breed. The Poms are friendly to almost all humans, but may become aggressive with other dogs. It can be comical to see a five pound Pomeranian barking in the face of a larger dog.

It is not unusual for a breeder who lives far away to expect the new owner to pick up their puppy. Breeders like to meet the new owners to make sure the dog has a good home. Your pet will be worth the trip. Enjoy your little fluffy bundle of energy.
