Cavachon Puppies Make Great Pets

By Marci Nielsen

Mixed breed dogs can be wonderful pets. Breed one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and one Bichon Frise together and the result if a litter of Cavachon puppies. The puppies are a hybrid and not considered pure bred. Despite the fact that their ancestry consists of two pure bred dogs, the parents were not of the same breed. Subsequent generations of Cavachons will continue to be classified as hybrid.

These pets are well suited to being indoor dogs because they are hypo allergenic and their coats shed very little. They are not extremely small dogs, but small enough to keep indoor living comfortable for both dog and owner. The smallest females are twelve pounds, while the smallest males are around sixteen pounds. The colors most commonly found on their coats are peach and white. However, they are also found to have two colors or in some instances the coats are tri colored.

Cavachons are friendly, good natured pets. They are currently very popular with families as they tolerate children well. They make intelligent pets who will bark at unidentified noises and people. They are not aggressive towards people, and their bark is only a warning bark to alert the owner that there is something out of the ordinary. Do not count on your Cavashon to be a watchdog. This is not in their nature.

Mixed breeds have the advantage of being less vulnerable to health issues than their pure bred counterparts. Although generally quite healthy, one cause for concern with this mixed breed stems from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel side of its ancestry. The spaniels have been known to have mitral valve disease, which is very serious. Responsible breeders will do everything in their power to avoid passing along such a trait. Still, it is a good idea to inquire about the health of the parents upon adoption and in future years to see if any negative health issues occur in the parents.

One weakness the Bichon Frise parent may pass only to its offspring is a disease of the immune system. This too is serious and may shorten the life of your pet by as much as fifteen years. Again, stay in touch with the breeder to make sure both parents remain healthy.

Breeders in Kent Oh are aware of the history of the mixed breed and are careful to produce puppies with a good chance of long healthy lives. These breeders believe that it is their responsibility to help prepare the puppy for his or her new home. They train the dogs to sleep through the night for six to seven hours. New dog owners may not know that having a new puppy can sometime make the owner as sleep deprived as having a new baby. Seasoned pet owners will deeply appreciate this extra training by the breeders.

Crate training litters is an effective way of getting them to sleep through the night. If you have ever had a new puppy in the house, you know that the experience can make you very sleep deprived. Housebreaking can also cause some issues. It is great to work with breeders who give your pet a head start on both of these challenges.

These dogs make loving, caring pets that you and your family will cherish for many years. Not all breeders are created equal, so choosing a conscientious breeder is essential to the happy life you hope to share with your furry friend. It is not long before new owners realize their puppy is an important addition to the family,
