By Ann Mitchell

A Nigerian Dwarf is a breed of a miniature goat. Their size is around the size of a golden retriever which is why many are in love with these cuties. They have 6 different colors, white, black, gold, red, and cream. They have multiple patterns as well. And, some comes with a white frosting on the ears.

Its personality is what they are known for and what makes them a hit to breeders. They are intelligent and gentle making it easy for a person to raise and take care of. Their milk is known for being sweeter than those of cows. There are many reasons why breeders are in love with the Nigerian Dwarf Goats Santa Cruz County.

Goat belongs to a herd of animals that is why they need to have a companion always with them. So, if you are planning to buy, do not settle for one only and go for at least two as they tend to get lonely which could cause to sadness. If sadness would not go away they could become ill and may result to death. This may sound absurd but its true.

For its food which is the most important for these goats to live and grow there are many types of food that you may feed them. Two of the most recommended are the alfalfa mix and the eastern grass hay. But, if you have an older wether or buck with you, do not feed it with the alfalfa as it could get a urinary calculi.

For goats up to 12 months old, you can give it with corn oats, barley, and calf manna. If you would want to know the measurements in feeding these, you may search it up online. When planning to feed it with hay, make sure that it is fresh provided with clean water with the right amount of coldness.

Make sure that they are provided with a shelter. A shelter is a necessity for them during a very hot day or a very cold one. They will serve as their resting place so it must be done well. This is supposed to be prepared before the winter season arrives. It serves are their protection from harmful weathers.

Enclosed shelter is what its supposed to be, so when winter comes the place is warm and cozy so snow could not come inside. It is important to build one since during these days they will not be able to run around freely at all times due to the cold.

Now, these shelters can easily become dirty meaning it could be thriving with lots of bacteria because of its structure. It is an enclosed space so dirt could accumulate faster since air and light are the only ones that get through in it. Make sure you clean it out at least three times a week.

Now, it does not mean that one can only raise dwarf goats if a wide space with luscious green grasses is present. You just need a good amount of space for them to roam around. It is not a problem if there are no grass on the place. You may buy these at some of your local stores. With proper care they could live long.
