Choosing the Right name for your German Shepherd Young Puppy

By Steve Cote

So you're looking to name your German shepherd puppy. Naming a dog is harder than we initially think yet superb fun. The German shepherd merits a noble and dignified name, to match his stature and nature. You may want to wait and observe your puppy for a while before deciding on his name. From the other perspective you may prefer to have his name all ready when you bring him home. These are some ideas to get you moving.

Male German shepherd names: Baron, for a noble dog indeed. King, matching the German shepherds air of royalty. Ace, defined as an enzyme that increases blood pressure, as only a puppy can. Dash, the fast puppy. Buddy, a chum for the remainder of your life.

Female German shepherd names: Lady, For the delicate female. Lassie, one of the famous loyal dogs, a household name. Gem, A valuable name for a useful friend. Fortunate, glorious name for a puppy born into a loving home. Sky, Simple and effective.

You'll notice that most of these names are one or two Syllables. The most vital thing to remember when choosing a name for your dog is ease. Recall will be made tricky if you need to roar a 5 syllable name every time you call your dog. 1 or 2 syllables will be adequate and if you must have a longer name consider a shortening. If for example your dog is called Charlie Brown your dog will only need the first part to respond. Screaming Charlie Brown at the park will be a wasted exercise.

So select the name conscientiously, your dog will be wearing it for a considerable time to come. If you're going to German shepherd puppy training classes remember that you'll need to say the name continuously in a group of people. Most of all enjoy your new dog!
