Manage Your Pony Through The Cold Months Of Winter

Come winters and it is time to battle the biting cold. While you can sneak inside your blanket to safeguard yourself from the dipping temperatures, your pet horse cannot do so. It's really important that you take additional care of your horse during the winter season if you do not desire your pet to become a victim of the cold.

During the winter season, we do not ride as much. As a result, your pony needs lesser calories. This is because your pony is going to burn lesser calories standing in the paddock. Since your pony wants lesser calories, you can easily reduce the amount of fodder you are feeding him. But, at the exact same time your horse needs more calories to maintain his body temperature. As it is important to look after your horses' food across the year, in winters you have to pay even more attention. You have to ensure that you provide your horse with the pony special feed only or other supplements to keep the nutritive balance in place. Horses also have to be fed with salt blocks and mineral licks. Well, it is not only your cherished horse that needs care in the winters, even you have to take care of your nutritional intake. You should raise your dose of minerals and vitamins, particularly if you want to have a pimple free skin.

In winter season, the chances of your pony developing impaction colic are rather more. The intestinal tract of horse get blocked. This happens because of large mass of food. This blockage basically occurs in the largest intestine. So to prevent the probability of occurrence of impaction colic, ensure that your pony is taking adequate quantity of water. Now, it is actually possible that your horse doesn't drinks water as in winter season, the water is cold. In this case, you may use a tank heater to provide water to your pet.

To not let the winters take a toll on your loved pet pony, cover him with a good warm blanket. In case, your horse has short hair, do provide him a warm blanket to save him from the tough climate chills. Also, ascertain that the blanket fits your pet properly.

Another problem you must take care of is that the micro organisms may grow unusually in certain circumstances.
