The Pick Of The Litter Silver Labrador Retriever Puppies For Sale

By Jeannie Chapman

When considering adding a furry four-legged member to the family, there are various options to be measured before heading to a breeder. Thinking about your lifestyle and the dog's lifestyle, is paramount to your choice. If your family includes young children, a well-mannered, gentle canine should be at the top of your list. If your family doesn't include children now, but will in the future, choosing silver labrador retriever puppies for sale for their tenderness and loyalty now is a great idea.

A growing debate surrounds the color of this specific dog. The American Kennel Club (AKC), which certifies all major breeds, does not distinguish the shiny gray pups from the chocolate color. This is because the chocolate cover a lengthy list of colors, including silvery. However, Retriever groups around the world recognize the color and bloodlines as a true retriever.

Retriever groups across the country accept three distinct colors of shiny gray for silvery pups. They consist of light, factored-silver and charcoal, with the factored-silver encompassing yellow, black and chocolate dogs. When a pup is labeled chocolate, one of its parents would be a silver-gray color. The puppy itself may not be a silvery, but carries a gene for producing a silvery litter if he or she were to be bred with a true shiny gray or a factored-silver.

Another misnomer about this type of retriever is there must be some Weimeraner in their linage. An assumption such as this has been proven untrue by top researchers at an American college of veterinary medicine. The genetic components found in labs of silver-grays are not the same as the Weimeraner.

Purchasing a new pup should not be taken lightly and not something you can simply clip a coupon for. A fee will not determine a bloodline, the existing or future health or the behavior and temperament. Trustworthy and dependable breeder who is willing to show you their complete operation is going to provide the best dogs.

If your home is a small house or apartment, you will want to reconsider a lab. Due to their size and bountiful energy, this breed needs more room and a purpose. If they are not given something to do, a job, then your personal belongings become their business. They hunt your socks, purses, shirts and even an end table or two and terminate its existence.

Retrievers are classified in the sporting group and considered bird dogs. They were originally bred to help fishermen in Newfoundland. They would assist in catching fish that escaped from the nets as they were pulled in to the boats. Many years of cross-breeding with other Retrievers, Setters and Spaniels, today's lab is a real retriever of downed flying game and other small critters.

A faithful companion, gentle and loving is what you'll find when looking at silver labrador retriever puppies for sale. The lab can be trained to assist in hunting while maintaining a tender side for home life. They are easily trained with positive reinforcement and fast become the favorite of every family member.
