Cone Of Shame Dogs Activities

By Alta Alexander

There are several reasons for dogs to end up wearing one of these, and it is most often after being Spayed or neutered to prevent chewing the stitches. Sometimes doggies get injured, and it stops them from disturbing the stitches or chewing on the wound. You can easily help them through this ordeal by just making the collar enjoyable. Here are a few ideas to make sure your dog is not among the Cone Of Shame Dogs.

Making them fun. First options include adding lightweight toys that can not hurt your pet but offer a diversion from the added complication of a big round thing around their neck. Use soft, lightweight cotton ropes and staple them around the outer edge, so your dog can toss its head from side to side and have fun trying to catch the rope.

Let's face it. Some dogs just love dressing up and the attention they get in the process. Take some of their old clothing and toys, then staple them around the width of the collar. Make sure the rough edges of the staples are not able to scratch the dog's skin. Also secure some of their favorite stuffed cuddles in place to help keep them feeling at ease.

Adding items to the cone of shame provides entertainment for the humans in the family and attaching different items of gender specific identity make for hours of good fun. Perhaps your female doggy likes fancy dog clothing so place some frilly items around the cone so she can see them, but not eat them. Boy doggies seem to like boy stuff so paint a cowboy hat on a part of the cone.

Maybe your dog likes flowers. With a selection of materials, some pet-friendly glue and a talent for cutting out petals and ruffles, your doggy becomes a cute daisy, rose or marigold! Even the ragbag of clothing is a gold mine for exciting and colorful floral arrangements to make the cone more bearable. Almost any soft material makes excellent additions to these medical contraptions.

Other lovely designs offer a large selection of ideas from painting on mustaches to giants bows. Just use non-toxic paints and liquids to protect your dog from poisoning. Remember that dogs love attention making this an excellent time to practice learning commands. Stay, Sit and Down are perfect for this time of recovery.

Does your dog do impersonations? Either way the cone makes a perfect backdrop for experimenting with different characters. Perhaps something from history, or a TV series your dog always watches. Make some fake ears out of old stuffed toys, or add a beard from a tattered crochet throw. Try something different and brilliant to help ease their boredom and shame. They love all the attention you give them, so make it count while you can.

No one likes it when his or her pet is injured or ill, and certainly the pets do not enjoy it. Just because they must wear this cone shaped device does not mean they have to feel shame. Take into consideration the reason for wearing the cone, and adjust the activities accordingly. If time is a problem, you can find these collars for sale and quickly get to the fun with all the work already done.
