Small Dog Breeds Are Your Best Bet

By Joseph Schwartz

Buying a dog can be a big commitment particularly if you choose one that gets large in size. By going with one of the small dog breeds you can expect all of your costs and many of your responsibilities to be smaller as well. However, there are a few things to think about first.

A lot of future dog owners would be much better suited to a pooch that doesn't have too much energy. This might be you, if you are too busy to commit to long daily walks or simply do not like to exercise. Don't worry if this is your situation as there are many small dog breeds that fit the bill. Dachshunds, Pugs, and Chihuahuas are all ideal breeds when it comes to needing only a small amount of exercise.

If you are someone with tons of energy there are a lot of pet options that might be your style. Those who spend their free time running, jogging, or walking will do well with a Wire-haired Fox Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, or Miniature Bull terrier. Each of these small sized dog breeds are shockingly energetic despite being pint-sized.

Color can be an important factor in the decision making process. While some people may not care what color their dog is others only prefer a dog of a specific color or colors. Small white dog breeds are especially popular for example. This group includes the Toy Poodle, Maltese, and Bichon Frise all of which make excellent pets of course.

Picking a name is often the best part of the entire dog buying process. It is usually a little more so if you have a boy pooch. That's because there are just so many cool male dog names. To help you come up with some just think of characters in your favorite movie or book. There are also many websites that have huge lists of names that can help whether you have a male or female pet.

When contemplating a petite pooch be sure to keep the above information in mind. It will ensure you are on the right path towards finding the breed that is best for you and your family.
