Celebrities do not always seem to understand the effect they have on devoted fans. Some people get so involved with their favorite stars that they want to be just like them. Fans can even go to the extreme of trying to find tiny pets they can carry around. If they go online, they can find plenty of people who call themselves toy or teacup dog breeders. Many are actually puppy mill owners whose only interest is profiting from the obsessions of others.

If you are genuinely interested in owning one of these tiny, delicate animals, you must do your research carefully and make absolutely certain that you are purchasing a puppy from a legitimate, recognized breeder. You can download a checklist from the humane society with the guidelines to follow if you are unsure how to proceed.

All animals have personalities and character traits. Pomeranians are no exception. No matter whether you purchase a teacup, toy or standard variety, you will be dealing with a very small breed. Make sure before you make this important decision that you are ready to care for a little companion for the next decade or more.

These dogs are notorious for their big personalities and stubborn ways. They are usually resistant to being trained, made to do tricks, or generally cater to anyone but themselves. Pomeranians tend to believe that your world should revolve around them. They can be taught certain acceptable behaviors with time, treats, and plenty of attention. As long as you are consistent with what you expect from them, they may work with you.

Pomeranians and children do not always mix well. The puppy may look like a stuffed toy to a small child who will try to pick it up and play with it. Little dogs are easy to overlook and might be stepped on or run over with a riding toy. It would not be unusual for a pup to nip or actually bite a youngster for getting too close to it or mishandling it. They can also be jealous and demanding of your time. Many prefer the spotlight for themselves.

It seems that some people instinctively shelter their little pets since they look so small and helpless. Carrying them everywhere however, is not good for the dog or the owner. Pomeranians are active, athletic animals that have energy to burn. A good walk on a leash will do them a lot more good than being carried around in a handbag. If you give them a chance to walk and come in contact with people and other dogs, they may become more sociable.

Toy and teacup dogs are very popular right now with celebrities and less well known people. They are cute and cuddly, but they are also real flesh and blood animals that must be treated with care and respect.
