The Best Advantages Of Owning Small Dog Breeds

By Mike Hienstat

Owning a dog is one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences in life. Unfortunately many people miss out on this experience thinking that they don't have the time or the space to responsibly take care of one when in reality nothing could be further from the truth. Here are the top five advantages to owning a small dog breed, that will make just about anyone realize just how easy it can be.

One of the best things about having a tiny dog is that you don't have to live in a huge house or have a yard, an apartment will do. Bigger pets need larger spaces however most small dog breeds are more than happy even in what would be considered cramped apartments. Luckily this means that an enormous amount of people are able to keep their canines in places that would not work for much bigger pooches.

When deciding on a petite pet you luckily have a very wide variety to pick from. It doesn't matter if you prefer one with long hair, short ears, or want one of the small white dog breeds, there are more than enough options to make everyone happy no matter how picky they may be. Since each breed has its own unique traits for which it is known both in how the dog may look and act, you can quickly use these to narrow down your search.

In regards to exercise, you shouldn't think that you'll need to go jogging or running with your pet for at least an hour or two per day like with their larger cousins. Every breed and even dog has its own energy level and exercise requirements. However even with some of the most high energy popular small dog breeds, like Jack Russel Terriers for example some time spent playing and walking around the block with your pooch will keep them happy and healthy.

Properly taking care of pets of any size means extra expenses. But for dogs the smaller they are the less those costs end up being. Whether it is an operation at the veterinarian or food at the pet shop you will pay a fraction of the price that owners of big canines will. Small sized dog breeds simply need less of everything which means more cash in your pocket.

A benefit that many owners are surprised to learn about after owning their pet for a while is that many little pooches are actually fantastic watchdogs. Unlike a guard dog that is meant to physically stop an intruder, a watchdog simply sounds the alarm. Terriers make some of the best small dog breeds for not only being your buddy but letting you know when something out of the ordinary is going on since they are so naturally alert.

As you can see there are a ton of benefits to owning a petite canine, so don't automatically assume you don't have the resources to take care of one. With so many small dog breeds to choose from, you will be sure to find yourself a furry little friend that makes your life complete.
