Professional French Bulldog Breeders Most Reliable Puppy Source

By Amanda Murphy

Adding a new dog to the family is certainly exciting, especially when the choice is an adorable Frenchie. However, they differ from other breeds in that they have special requirements and are often used in breeding scams. This makes it even more important for potential pet parents in Ohio to have a keen understanding of the breed before entering the process, and to use only certified professional French Bulldog breeders to get their puppy.

Anyone who is interested in owning a Frenchie needs to understand that this breed is a full time commitment and no small financial matter. The purchase price for a purebred pup typically runs around two to three thousand dollars, and they have special dietary needs and health concerns that could be a little more than most people are comfortable with. While they are well worth the investment because of their wonderful attributes and show qualities, this is one fact of which a responsible breeder will make sure a potential owner is fully aware.

People naturally seek out bargains, but this practice is ill advised when buying this type of pup. Purchasing one for $1500 or less is risky because those brokers are usually peddling dogs that are low quality, not pure, or imported from puppy mills located overseas. In actuality, there are a limited number of Frenchies because breeding them is quite difficult due to their anatomy, and a C-section is often required to safely deliver the litter - situations that cost the breeder considerably.

One should be wary of any facility that tries to sell dogs using phrases such as "exotic", "rare", or "mini", as these terms are signs of a scam. There is no miniature version of this breed and any unusual coat shades or eye colors are going to be due to genetic defect. While the puppies will still be beautiful, but will not be accepted for show purposes.

There are organizations dedicated to setting the standards for breeding. It is highly recommended that a person only utilize facilities that are on these approved lists. These people will have shown that they understand the needs of this breed and what it takes to produce litters with quality lineage.

Physically visiting the facility to assess it personally, is always recommended whenever possible. In this way, the purchaser has the opportunity to see how clean the animal habitat is, what puppy interaction, and see the condition of the parents - particularly the mother. If this option is not viable, randomly requesting photos showing the target pup, its litter mates, and mom, is advised. No stock images accepted.

Buyers have the right to request certain documents from the facility. This might include the certification qualifying the breeder, and the papers verifying the lineage of the pup being purchased. They should also get its registration with the UK, AKC, or UKC, which shows that it is a purebred. It might even hold dual registrations.

It is impossible for a breeder to completely guarantee any puppy will not experience any health issues in its life, but they can have a vet certify no hereditary conditions exist. A bit of breed and provider research can be very beneficial.
