Four Types of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Training

By Ashley Phillips

Cavalier king charles spaniel training is what makes this exceptionally affectionate breed more fun to be around. When going through it, they are presented with various commands and behaviors to help them know how to behave appropriately. As a result, you're less likely to have a dog with behavior issues like jumping on people, biting, excessive barking and others.

Training this particular breed doesn't only limit to teaching him how to follow basic commands. There is more to cavalier king charles spaniel training than simply sit, stay or come. Learn the different types of training:

Socialization

Socialization is essential in dog training. It is during this time that the pet ought to be exposed to various things and circumstances that may drastically affect his rapport to humans along with other animals. During the first few days at home, it's best to introduce him to the new atmosphere he is brought into, members of the family and resident pets in a gradual manner. He must also get used to typical sights and sounds of everyday life like children playing and laughing, passersby, friends visiting, the ringing of the phone as well as sights and sounds due to natural forces like thunder, lightning and rain. Once he completed the required vaccination, you can also start taking him out for a walk. When exposing him to something, make sure to do it gradually and make every experience a positive one. This in turn will make him realize that these things or people are good, not something to be scared of.

Obedience training

While you are socializing your canine friend, it isn't wrong to begin training him with obedience commands. Begin with the basic first such as sit, stay and come. These commands are not only simple but also effective in keeping your pet away from trouble. In addition, basic commands are also the foundation of more complex commands you may want to teach him sometime soon.

Housebreaking

You can never be a happy pet owner if your pet does not know how to do his business properly. Like socialization, it's wise to start housebreaking as soon as your puppy arrives home. Specify a spot in your property as his toilet and train him to poo or pee in there as much as possible. In the event you catch him about to pee or poo in the area other than that you chose, act right away to distract him and take him to the appropriate place. Never punish him for accidents for it will bring both of you no good.

Show Dog

While this is not the most common goal of cavalier king charles spaniel training, there are owners who train their little pets to take part in conformation shows. In order to excel, pets should be armed with tricks to please the judges as well as the viewers. Discipline and ability to withstand distraction are two essential traits your pet should possess in order to stand out in these shows.
