Could Pet Reincarnation Be Possible

By Dawn Williams

Some religions in the world place animals in a place of high esteem. Hindu people have a reverence for cows and do not eat beef. They allow cows to roam through towns or anywhere else they please. Some people do not entertain the idea of an animal having a soul as a human does. But, some believe pet reincarnation is a possibility.

In Africa, people generally believe in animal reincarnation. According to belief, death is not an end. It is believed that a life continues in some other form. They believe the dead live on in an invisible state and reincarnate into a new life. That new life might be as a person or an animal.

The ancient Egyptians prepared for the next life by constructing pyramids filled with all the necessities to live that next life. Buddhists have a concept of soul that has people returning to earth in a process called rebirth.

The Zulu people in Africa believe a soul is born into an insect or rodent. It moves up the line after each death, reincarnating into a higher life form until finally, it enters a human baby. Following that, there are many additional lives to be lived.

Karmic rebirth is the belief of Hindu and Buddhist religions. Thus, if someone is good when he dies he is reborn into another human. If he is bad, he can be reborn in the form of an animal. This is not exactly pet rebirth, but is similar.

A pet dog or cat inspires love in its owner. People are devoted to pets almost as much a children. There are pet loss support groups for owners who lose a dog or cat. Some of the members tell about a pet they believe to be reborn after a previous pet died.

The Inuit people have the belief that everyone and every animal has a soul. In earlier times the hunters would kill an animal for food and then perform a ritual to send the soul into the next incarnation. They do not think an animal is ever reborn as a person, but, rather always is born another animal.

Native Americans consider the spirits of animals to be divine life forces that are part of the Creator. They believe in them being guardians of man. That spirit is reborn in a great circle of life. In earlier times, hunters offered a prayer thanking the animal for giving its life so the tribe could eat.

Men and dogs grow attached to each other in a special way. A dog loves his owner and never judges him. If a loved dog could be returned, the owner would be happy. There are more people in the world who believe in reincarnation and subsequent lives than do not.

Pet reincarnation is no less a possibility than human reincarnation. Every culture has its own set of beliefs. If it comforts the pet owner who has lost their dog or cat, why scoff at it. It is not something anyone can either prove or disprove and a great many people believe that it is real.
