Saluki is one of the oldest known breed of domesticated dog and is ancient Persian Greyhound. They may look fragile but they are well known as good hunting dogs and sight hounds. They look like Greyhounds but it is easy to tell them apart from the feathering on the tails, ears and on the back of their legs. They go by the name of Gazelle Hound and also known as the royal dog of Egypt.

Saluki came from ancient Arabian city which also possess that exact name. The Islam refer to them as divine gift from their god and is highly revered before. They are sometimes found mummified with the ancient pharaohs because of their religious association. They can hunt any fast animals like gazelles and antelopes and also some rabbits and fox.

Salukis are very graceful looking canines. The sleek appearance they have depicts speed and agility. When at the top speed, you can see their four legs floating in the air. They possess great endurance and an amazing impulse to hunt. Rough terrain and long distance is never an issue for them.

They are known to be gentle and affectionate but may act aloof sometimes. They are naturally quiet and usually only howl with high pitched tone when they feel that something is wrong or they are want attention. They sometimes become attached to just one person in your family.

Furthermore, they get along well with any children and known to be gentle and patient with them. If ever they need some peace and quiet time, they will find a space to settle. They get along with any canines as well. Usually, they are inactive indoors but when out on the field they are bursting with energy.

Notably, the tough part of training these canines usually involves in making Salukis ignore the animal instinct that they naturally have. These impulses that they have has existed for thousands of years so it might take awhile to make them be completely obedient to you. Since they are sight hounds, it is best to make them undergo some visual training methods and mixed with some verbal commands. This breed is known to be very sensitive so remember not to be harsh during training. The reward system is a better way to make them listen rather than shouting.

Notably, they are very intelligent canines so they will easily get bored with repetitive training. Remember to keep the trainings short and frequent. They are an active type so a lack of exercise makes them restless and destructive indoor. They need obedience training to keep their hunting instinct under control.
