By Minnie Whitley

Dogs can be good friends, but only if you get a good one for the right purpose. While it may meet your needs, its aggressiveness will cause you problems with neighbors. There are lots of ads for white lab puppies for sale in California.

Know the type of Labrador that is right for you. This is never a straightforward answer. If you want a hunting dog, for example, a Labrador from working lines may be the best option for you. However, you can still get a dual-purpose one, but very few breeders have such labs.

It is also important to consider the setup of your family before you buy a dog. Some families are set up in a way that does not make it conducive for keeping a dog. It is never good to have a puppy when you have children under the age of five. If you are expecting children, then you should wait until they are born and they are old enough.

While the initial cost may be cheap, then upkeep can consume a lot of money. Therefore, ensure that you are prepared financially.

Before you buy a Labrador, you must also ensure that you have adequate time to take care of it. If you are busy at work the whole day, then it would not make sense to bring a young puppy and leave it unattended for several hours. You have to commit to training and exercising the dog, which may not be possible if you are busy.

Ensure that the seller is a member of a professional breeders association. This is the best way of ensuring that you are getting what you are paying for. Members of the American Kennel Club, for example, have their dogs tested for genetic contamination. If you buy a lab from such sellers, then you can be guaranteed of pedigree.

Check the professionalism of the facility. You can only get good pups if they are raised in a good environment. While dogs from pet shops or even puppy farmers tend to be cheap, these are not the best places to get purebred pups. You need a seller who understands the legal and health guidelines that must be followed.

Puppies should only be sold when they are emotionally stable. When you place your order, ensure that the dog will be delivered after at least six weeks after birth. This ensures that they have had adequate time to wean naturally and to detach themselves from the mother. If adequate time is not given, they may die out of psychological trauma.

Never be in a hurry to buy a Labrador. Ensure that you have the right information regarding the behavior of the dog and its health and physical requirements. This will help you prepare the right environment for the puppy before its arrival.
