By Shawn Hunter

Each person who is on the hunt for a new pet will be desiring that their puppy have certain physical and behavioral characteristics. Every breed is unique in character and personality so it helps if the individual does just a bit of research to know which ones will be their best match. Teacup poodles could be a great option for those seeking tiny dogs in Dallas, TX.

This group is not an official AKC recognized size category for this breed. It is actually a moniker given to the animals that are of extremely small stature. Puppies sold under this category normally reach more than 4 pounds and may only grow to about 6 inches high at the shoulders, though they still fall into the Toy classification.

As a household pet, this breed is one of the most popular, mostly due to their cute looks, friendly nature and high intelligence. They are extremely tolerant of children and other pets and while they are not typically aggressive, they are quite protective when it comes to their family. They generally will not bite or physically attack in any way but they will assume a threatening stance and bark harshly.

If the humans in the household do not regular establish their dominance, these tiny pups may be apt to develop small dog syndrome. This is a condition where when the animal feels there is no one in the Alpha position, their natural leadership tendencies kick in and they take control. For a respectful and well behaved pet, it is important for all people, including children, to give firm commands confidently.

Their appearance is easily recognizable as they have long been the symbols of society, fashion, and circus fun. They have curly hair that is quite cloud like and often groomed in cuts that feature puffs on their foreheads, ears, chests, ankles, hips and at the tip of the tails. When they stand, they hold their heads high in a very confident manner with their backs straight, and tail pointed up, giving them a boxed shape.

Pups may be born in a variety of colors. Solid coated dogs are usually uniformly shaded in either cafe' au lait, champagne, red, blue, brown, gray, silver, black or white. Those belonging to the groups, Tuxedo, Parti or Abstract will have two or more of these tones combined in specific patterns or ways.

A lot of interested pet owners are drawn to these dogs because of their ability to be easily trained. Being intelligent gives them an eagerness to learn and they have the capability to process commands and execute them with impressive proficiency. It is primarily this advanced obedience that has made them suitable for many positions including as special needs service companions, entertainment performers, hunting retrievers and household pets.

Due to their extreme small size, this particular group does not make very good yard dogs, but are well suited for apartment living in indoor housing with supervised walks and play time. Before taking one of them as a pet, it is important to make sure that one has the time available to provide the pup with plenty of attention as they are very social animals. Knowing a bit about the type of puppy one is wanting to adopt can make the transition smoother for all involved.
