Facts On Ragdoll Felines According To The TICA Ragdoll Breeders

By Shawn Hunter

Cats have been around for centuries. They can be seen at home as pets. Some people preferred to have them over dogs for pets.

Although most people consider them as aloof and unsociable, there is one breed that shows fondness for humans. The Ragdoll cat is different from other breeds because they are very sociable and friendly. It is large yet gentle, easy going with cute long hair and captivating blue eyes. They love to cuddle, play, follow you, and greet you whenever you come home from work. This is why most people prefer them over other breeds. For a number of years, the TICA Ragdoll breeders have developed high breed felines.

It has been bred in the 1960 by Ann Baker in Riverside, California. It is the result of mating three different breeds. Josephine is the matriarch of the Ragdoll breed. Josephine had been paired by Persian, Birman, and Burmese. This contributed to the gentle and laid back personality.

It is known to get along with other animals and children. They are willing to be dressed and carried around. They do not resist when kids play with them. They do not cause damage in the house.

They are termed as cat dogs because their traits are like the dogs. They are good companions and are very smart. The male felines can weigh up to twenty pounds. On the other hand, the female felines can be as heavy as ten to fifteen pounds. Its life expectancy can range from twelve to fifteen years.

They have 4 different cool body patterns, the pointed, lynx, bicolor, and mitted. The cat with a pointed pattern has a distinct dark coloring on its tail, ears, nose, and paws. Although the mitted is the almost similar with the pointed, a mitted Ragdoll has lines that run from the chin to its genitals, and a white tail and belly. The cat with a lynx pattern has lines on its body and the inner ear is white and a reddish brown nose. The bicolor feline has an overturned V shaped. Its belly and legs are colored white.

Caring for them is easy. It does not need any special care. It enjoys being brushed once or twice a week. You do not need to bathe it regularly, as long as the it does not smell. You can also brush its teeth to prevent potential periodontal disease.

Be wary when giving treats to them. Kidney issues are a dominant problem in felines, so make sure that you are only giving them nutritious treats that are low in salt. You should also bring your pet to the vet regularly to prevent the risk of developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. HCM can develop during their 6th month. They can potentially die from the ailment in their 3rd year.

Its prices can depend on the pattern and color. If you want to buy one, the breeder can give it to you in its 12th month where its health is already stabilized. For more information, visit the website and see the different Ragdolls available.
