By Shawn Hunter

If you did not know that donkeys are amazing creatures in every continent, it is the high time you did that. You will actually have pleasure in having a donkey in your home especially if you know how to take care for it. This domestic animal is helpful in carrying farm product and other loads at home. However, some people do not know the right breed to choose. If it is your first time to buy a donkey, you should consider buying any of the minature donkeys for sale.

Before you get the donkey home, you should see if you meet some of the standards that make the life of this animal comfortable. Firstly, it is important to ensure you have a good shelter for the donkey. Although a donkey can be a disease resisting animal, it does not suggest you should subject it to harsh weather. It needs a place that is warm, wind free, spacious and free of parasites.

Green grass and dry hay are important feeds of a donkey. While you may store commercial feeds for them in store, you may not be able to store enough green grass for them in the same store. The best option would be allowing them to graze in the field on their own. This cannot happen if you only have a few meter square piece of land. In fact, two animals can only graze comfortably in a one acre land.

A donkey is among the animals that can get off the home area if you do not restrict them. The best way to restrict such animals is making a robust and strong fence for them. Mark the areas you want restricted and fence around. This ensures that your donkey would not find its way to the neighborhood and cause problems. Some neighbors may not take it kindly once your donkey trespass their areas.

It is not right to assume that a donkey and a horse embrace each other quickly like a kitten and a puppy do. A horse and a donkey may not be in good terms mostly in the first days when the donkey is new in that environment. The horse would fight the donkey before they get fostered. If you are not concerned, the horse may hurt the new donkey badly and cause wounds on its skin that would be entry points for numerous microbes.

How you transport your donkey depends on the distance of the breeders or of those selling it. If you are buying the donkey from the neighborhood, you may not require a vehicle to ferry it since it can just walk. Nonetheless, long distances may require you to look for vehicles with spacious cabins for the donkey.

As a wise buyer, you should consider going with a qualified veterinary doctor to the breeder. The vet would be important in helping you to check on certain defects that such animals develop with age. This is includes checking for defects in the teeth, skin, hocks, eyes and ears of this donkey. The vet helps you to get the value of your money.

Finally, it is important to consider the color of the donkey. What many people do not know is that colors determine the cost of the donkey. For instance, a grey donkey may cost cheaper than a black, brown or spotted donkey. However, you should forgo a donkey with a beautiful color because of price.
