How To Choose Australian Labradoodles

By Sandra Roberts

All breeds of dogs regardless of whether they are mixes, crossbreeds, or purebreds have the potential of developing genetic health problems. Australian Labradoodles are not excepted from this possibility. As such, it is important to avoid breeders who do not provide health guarantees on their puppies, but instead make unsubstantiated claims. One must ask to see health certificates of the puppies before making a purchase.

If the breeder is an honest one, then they will be more than willing to gladly share any concerns about the health of the puppy with their customers. In their explanation they will state the type of expected diseases and rate at which they happen. Doing this enables the buyer to make decisions based on facts. In case chances of a specific genetic illness occurring are low, a person may proceed to acquiring the puppy. This however, must only happen after confirmation tests have been run.

As this dog breed is a hybrid, it is prone to health issues affecting both of its parents. This means that they may develop same health issues affecting Labrador retriever, standard doodles, and miniature doodles. Fortunately, as genetic diversity is introduced by mixing of genes from both parents, chances of inheriting certain diseases may be lower.

Inherited health conditions can always be detected in puppies, but not always. Some inherited conditions can only be detected after the puppy has grown fully. Thus, the buyer is left at the mercy of the breeder. However, one can avoid being at the mercy of the breeder by ensuring that the breeder can produce health certificate for the parents and grandparents of the puppies.

There are certain conditions that are common in a certain line of dogs. In this case, the puppy is free from certain inherited conditions if their grandparent and parents did not have the condition. One should get the health certificate of parent dogs from renowned offices such as the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and the Canine Registry Foundation among others.

There are scrupulous breeders who go to such great lengths to lie to buyers who may not be suspecting anything. They conjure stories in their attempts to convince buyers why testing is not required. Some even claim that they have never encountered genetic issues in their entire lines of dogs, hence testing is not a necessity. Others provide certificates issued by veterinarians as proof. These are the kind of people to be avoided with immediate effect.

Besides health problems, dogs also die due to man-caused problems. For instance, obesity leads to many health problems which in turn kill puppies and adult dogs. It is hard for an obese dog to live its full life. As such, one should be careful with how they feed the dog. There are many healthy formulas on the market that one can adopt.

For better health and proper health, everyday exercise is compulsory. Since they are an active breed, they have to be exercised every day. For strong and fit bones, they must be walked daily. On daily basis, they must be released into the yard to exercise and run about on their own.
