Try These Ideas To Make Dog Training Less Work And More Reward

By Sally Byrd

Some people give their dogs away because of their bad behavior, but in most cases this can be avoided. A trained dog will be a healthy and happy member of your family. If you can spend some time and follow instructions, you can easily train your dog.

Dogs have a tendency to zone in on one particular thing until something else grabs their attention. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

You must be willing to invest the time required for practice if you want your training to be successful. It will take up to 50 repetitions to learn a new command. Continue repeating the command patiently, and eventually your dog will understand it.

To achieve the best results when housebreaking a pet, be aware of the food and water he consumes. In order to regulate your dog's toileting habits, you should feed him a good quality food at the same times each day. If you know when the puppy eats, you will be able to better predict when to take him out. This means fewer accidents!

Keep notice of dogs that are nearby when you are outside with your pet. Not all dogs are friendly, and not all owners are responsible. If you notice an aggressive or antisocial dog, keep your dog away from it.

Teach your dog no response is needed for the word 'no'. Find positive and supportive ways to train your furry friend. The word 'no' itself is not enough to make your dog understand they need to stop what they are doing. Each dog is unique and has unique requirements. Training should be geared towards their needs and personality.

Avoid letting your dog have accidents when potty training. Look for signs that your dog needs to go outside. Pacing back and forth and showing you more attention are types of triggers. If you see your dog doing this, take action immediately. Get out the leash and head for their designated potty area. Whenever your dog uses the restroom outside, reward him or her with lots of praise. Over time, he will be able to signal to you his need to relieve himself.

Your dog's grooming needs are a key part of training. A lot of dogs won't need much grooming, while others may need frequent grooming. A dog who is properly cleaned and groomed is protected against sickness and is more comfortable and easygoing.

Never reward bad behavior with the intent of quickly ending a certain behavior. This is sure to send the message that the dog has free reign and can control you. For example, if you give a treat to stop your dog from barking, you are teaching him to bark for treats.

Dogs tend to chew as a reaction to feeling anxious. Crate training your dog and giving him items to play with while you're gone should help keep both your home and dog safe.

Keep in mind that older dogs have limitations. Older dogs may never learn all the tricks in the book. Keep in mind that adopting an older dog means the chance of getting a dog already set in how they do things. It is still possible to teach new things, but more focus should be given to negative behavior avoidance.

You can have a dog who is obedient, healthy and happy. It is important to train your dog and give him lots of attention and love. Properly training your dog will really make life easier on your both.
