Most pet owners grow attached to these creatures because of their ability to be loyal. Examples of loyal friends are the newfie puppies.

In ancient Canada, somewhere around 1600, the pet was discovered. They were found in a place called Newfoundland within the country. It is described as a rare kind of breed because it is a mixture of the Viking dogs and the mastiffs from Portuguese. In the beginning, people from that area were not allowed to keep more than one dog in their homes. This resulted in their low numbers. In the long run, people were allowed to export them to most countries within Europe. This is made them become more popular.

Their anatomical features differ from other breeds in many ways. They are quite shorter than other dogs with height measuring 56-76 cm and weight between 50-69kg. In some rare cases, they may weigh up to 90kg. Furthermore, they are characterized by small eyes, triangular ears and a broad head.

Once upon a time, the puppies rescued a great leader in modern history. There was a time when Napoleon Bonaparte was running away from his enemy called Elba. In addition, they also took part in moving fishing nets and saving soldiers who were in danger. Therefore, they are credited with this useful function of being loyal.

Anyone would love to have this dog for a pet because of their companionship. They are able to befriend other animals in most instances as well. Nevertheless, it is important to note that they can become irritated if they feel threatened; a unique nature in all other dogs.
