Some Problems You Normally Find In Ponds

By Roland Stockwell

With a pond just outside your home, you could certainly have something to boast of. Such a feature after all would surely make your place look nicer. Aside from this, the water also has a cooling effect on your lawn. Even as the pond's presence gives some advantages to you, you should also know that this requires some diligence on your part. You also need to take care of your pond very well by preventing the growth of certain organisms which, if left undone, could be disastrous to your fishes.

There are actually many types of organisms that could cause problems that you would need to resolve. Among these are algae, such as filamentous algae and planktonic algae. Of the two though examples though, it is filamentous algae that is said to be worse. Planktonic algae may not be as bad in appearance to the former but it can still be such a huge problem for the pond owner. Not only do both destroy the pond's beauty. These are also harmful to the fishes if these grow excessively.

A liquid copper algaecide is your best friend in the fight against algae overgrowth. Captain is one of the brands that you should try because of its effectiveness. This solution has the ability to fight all types of algae overgrowth. To apply this to your pond, simply drop about a gallon of the solution per surface acre. However, if you want to make sure that the application is really effective, you may add another gallon to the same amount of water. As much as possible, you should not scrimp on this.

When these are just a few, cattails are enough to make a pond look more realistic. After all such plants are normal sights in countryside ponds. However, when these also sprout in different areas excessively, the pond would no longer be as beautiful. You need to control its growth. To do this, you should use a glyphosate-based systemic herbicide, such as AquaSpherePRO. Such herbicide could effectively control the growth of cattails and make your pond look neater as a result.

It is a fact that plants add more beauty in the pond. However, as the saying goes, anything that is excessive is no longer pleasant. This is the same principle that applies to pond plants. When there is an overgrowth of plants like duckweed, watermeal, azolla, and bladderwort, the pond would lose its natural beauty. It would consequently make your lawn look like a wasteland instead.

You may have make use of pond treatment options, such as Sonar AS. With this, you could then provide selective control over undesirable aquatic weeds. You must remember always that an artificial pond is basically like a decoration. It could make your outdoors look more pleasant. However, you do need to take good care of it. This means that you have to check any weed overgrowth while making sure that the surroundings look neat always. You could do this by simply applying herbicides and algaecides in the right amounts.
