You Can Have A Dog In The Home

By Jim Johnson

Dogs are fairly complex animals, so it makes sense that their care is rather involved as well. Do not expect to be a perfect owner right away. The following article has the tips and advice you need to properly care for your dog.

You may know that chocolate is dangerous for dogs, but you may not know the specifics. Chocolate is dangerous because of the stimulants caffeine and theobromine. Baking chocolate is the most dangerous, with a high amount of stimulants. White chocolate contains the least amount of stimulants. Take you dog to vet if he ingests chocolate.

Never allow your dog to ride in a car unsecured. Sitting on your lap or in the front seat is dangerous both to him and your ability to drive. Always place him in an appropriately sized pet carrier or invest in a pet seat belt that will keep him snug and safe in the middle of the back seat.

Try not to feed your dog any table scraps. This teaches dogs bad habits. Table scraps can actually lead to obesity and other health concerns. Don't allow your dog to beg at the table while you are eating.

If you take your dog with you on vacation, keep a photo of him on your phone. If they're separated from you, then you'll have a current photo that you can easily access and show others or to download for "lost" flyers.

Grooming your dog every day will ensure it doesn't shed all over the place. It leaves them looking gorgeous, for one thing. When you brush the coat, oils from the skin are distributed throughout, and this is makes the coat soft and silky.

House-training your dog will be much easier if you adopt a routine. You should go for walks regularly throughout the day and come home during your lunch break if necessary. If your dog has to be home alone for long hours, do not leave a bowl full of water unless it is very hot.

Just like humans, dogs need to get a good amount of exercise each and every day. If your dog does not get the exercise it needs, it health will decline, and so will his attitude towards life. Take the time to exercise your dog for at least a half hour each day for the best results.

If you want a happy and healthy dog, you must be a responsible pet owner. There are many things you must do and that will not only help your dog, but will be helpful to you and your relationship with him, too. Use the tips here to make sure your time with your dog is the best it can be.
