Train Your Dog Appropriately

By Marvin I. Matterson

The majority of pet owners make the incorrect presumption that a dog is significantly smarter than it really is. In fact, your dog simply reacts to you. It really wants to be part of the rest and it desires to be accepted, but it's nevertheless a pet with animal instincts. So, I say if you wish to change any kind of negative habits, the absolute best method to approach your dog is NOT to reprimand them or perhaps shout at them, but to pay attention to changing how they exhibit these instincts.

When customers began sending us their canines from Europe, it absolutely was somewhat surreal: Americans coaching European dogs for Europeans. When we began to realize why, it made sense. We were providing one thing other centers weren't. The majority of training facilities in America and Europe utilize the same method: dog sport training.

You will find centers that outright promote Schutzhund and Ring Sport coaching as "protection training." Some others attempt to make sport training look like "real-life," but clearly it's still sports activity. Regardless of what it's labeled, sport training prepares your pet dog for just one thing: dog sports.

The obedience might be accurate, but sport dogs are taught to perform for short intervals within a controlled atmosphere. The education is completed solely with a decoy who wears training equipment (bite suit or perhaps sleeve) and who makes very distinct actions. That situation is unlikely to be duplicated by any possible real-life threat.

We do need to make very clear that in our opinion there is nothing inappropriate with dog sports. We now have had, and continue to have, people of our staff associated with them.

Simultaneously, we are aware that sport training is sport training, while functional training is actually functional training. It's possible to cross-train some puppies either way, but generally at the cost of performance in either area.

What it really comes down to can be summarized in two words: functional results. You can refer to it as our "mantra." The functional outcomes start with impeccable manners and complete off-leash control and conclude with skills within protection that are crucial in protecting home and family. All those skills include advanced biting skills, advanced fighting capabilities and advanced handler protection exercises.

We provide 5 training programs ranging from our Obedience (off-leash obedience) and Protection Dog Basics I and II to sophisticated training with our Executive Protection Dog and Elite Family and Estate Protection Dog programs. All trainings include personalized coaching in your own home with our training employees. We offer handling instruction to clientele in the United States and abroad.
